Indian women’s football team beats Pakistan 5-2 in SAFF Championship 2024 opener – Viral News

The Indian women’s senior football team began its SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 with a 5-2 win against Pakistan in the tournament opener at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on Thursday.

The Santosh Kashyap-led team took the lead in the fifth minute after Grace Dangmei found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from the edge of the box. In the 17th minute, Manisha Kalyan doubled the lead with a tidy finish after running onto a through ball played by Bala Devi.

Devi went from provider to scorer, 10 minutes from halftime, when she slammed the ball into the top corner from an indirect freekick.

Seven minutes later, Grace scored her second of the game with a half-volley from a tight angle.

Suha Hirani got one on the board for Pakistan after converting from the spot in the second minute of added time of the first half.

Two minutes into the second half, Pakistan got a second after Kayla Siddiqi took advantage of a loose ball in India’s box and slotted it into the back of the net.

Substitute Jyoti sealed the game for India after she headed the ball past the opposition keeper after meeting a Dalima Chhibber corner.

India will face Bangladesh in its second Group A fixture on October 23.
