India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to clinch the two-match series after it chased down a measly target of 95 on Day 5 of the second Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Tuesday.
Rohit Sharma’s men had won the first Test in Chennai by a mammoth 280 runs. This clean sweep keeps India at the top of the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. On the other hand, the Tigers will likely drop down to seventh.
Rohit had won the toss and put Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side to bat first. After Day 1 in Kanpur, Bangladesh was positioned at 107/3 in 35 overs. However, the second two days were washed out without a ball being played.
Day 4 saw Mominul Haque become the second Bangladeshi batter to score a century on Indian soil. Jasprit Bumrah starred with three scalps as the Tigers were castled out for 233.
India seemed determined to force out a result from this rain-interrupted Test as Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat. The duo powered through and notched up the fastest team fifty, in just three overs, founding the boundary more often than not.
Jaiswal (72 off 51 balls) and KL Rahul (68 off 43 balls) contributed heavily as India declared on 285 with less than an hour to go for day’s play. At the end of Day 4, Bangladesh was 26/2 with R. Ashwin picking both scalps.
Day 5 saw Indian bowlers bowl out their opponent for 146 with Ashwin, Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja picking three wickets apiece in the innings. Akash Deep picked one.
It was fairly smooth-sailing for the Indian batters as they made easy of the 95-run target, achieving it before the end of the second session.
