Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Mlaba takes three-fer as South Africa keeps semifinal hopes alive with 80-run win against Scotland – Viral News

South Africa kept its semifinal hopes alive after comfortably beating Scotland by 80 runs in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.

Nonkululeko Mlaba (3/12) led the bowling attack once again to skittle out the Scots for 86 in 17.5 overs. With this win, South Africa now tops Group B with four points from three matches.

The Proteas earlier won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Laura Wolvaardt (40 off 27 balls) and Tazmin Brits (43 off 35 balls) started off brilliantly, posting a 64-run stand for the first wicket.

The partnership was cut short in the eighth over after Wolvaardt was sent back to the pavilion by spinner Katherine Fraser, who had failed to catch out the South African skipper in the second over.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp contributed with the ball with a 24-ball 43 to help her side reach a competitive total of 166.

When it was time for debutant Scotland to chase, the South African bowlers made the task of reaching the highest total of this edition so far quite tough.

Katherine Fraser registered the highest knock from a Scottish batter (14 off 21 balls) as Scotland was struggling at 34/3 at the end of the PowerPlay with Chloe Tyron starring with two wickets.

Nadine de Klerk picked two as Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus, and Annerie Dercksen picked a wicket each.
